Logan Locke, a senior at Cedaredge High School, has been named the Cedaredge Rotary Club’s September Student of the Month in recognition of her academic achievement, leadership, community service, and character.

Locke was honored during Tuesday’s Rotary Club meeting, where President Mark Condon presented her with the Student of the Month award along with a $500 scholarship contribution.

The Cedaredge Rotary Student of the Month award recognizes a local student whose accomplishments and involvement have made a positive difference at school and in the community.

Logan Locke Excels Academically
Locke has attended local schools since preschool and has maintained a 4.0 unweighted GPA while completing approximately 10 Advanced Placement courses.

Her academic goal is to graduate from Cedaredge High School as valedictorian. She has continued to challenge herself with advanced coursework, including Calculus BC* after completing Calculus AB the previous year.

One example of her commitment to academics is her decision to drive to Delta High School each morning to take AP Physics, rather than choosing an easier local course. Her father, Tate Locke, described the decision as choosing “the bigger path.”

Leadership at Cedaredge High School
Locke’s involvement at Cedaredge High School extends well beyond the classroom.

She serves as student council president, helping lead the organization as it plans major school events, including homecoming week.

She is also a member of Rotary Interact, a student organization focused on community service. The group has participated in local projects and helped sell pies during the previous year’s Apple Fest.

Locke said her experience with Interact has given her a better understanding of issues affecting her school and community while helping her develop planning and coordination skills.

Varsity Basketball and Girls Golf
Athletics are another important part of Locke’s high school experience.

She plays varsity basketball and competes in girls golf, where she has qualified for the state golf tournament during each of the past two years.

Those accomplishments are especially notable because they represent the first two years since the girls golf program was established at Cedaredge High School.

Locke also assists with the Cedaredge boys golf team, attending practices and tournaments and helping with rulings and tournament logistics.

Leadership Beyond the School Year
Locke’s commitment to her community continues during the summer.

She serves as an assistant director for a children’s theater camp at the Grand Mesa Arts Center, working alongside high school theater director Mr. Parsons.

The position gives her another opportunity to work with younger students while developing leadership and organizational skills.

Future Plans Include Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Development
After graduating from Cedaredge High School, Locke plans to study chemistry in college.

She is currently interested in pharmaceutical development but remains open to other career possibilities. She is applying to colleges in Colorado and around the country, including Colorado College and schools on both the East and West coasts.

At the time of the Rotary meeting, Locke had completed four college applications.

Family and Teachers Praise Locke’s Character
Locke’s family and teachers also shared their appreciation for her dedication and character.

Her mother, Julie Locke, described her daughter as a hard worker who is deeply involved in her school and community. She also called Logan a “silent leader” and a good friend.

Her grandmother, Karen Locke, emphasized Logan’s self-motivation, saying she does not need reminders to pursue her goals.

Brittney Kelleher, who has taught Locke since sixth grade, shared an example that illustrated Locke’s empathy and character.

Rotary District Governor Recognizes Logan’s Accomplishments
Rotary District Governor Donna Hood also offered a special acknowledgment during the meeting.

Hood praised the Cedaredge Rotary Club for investing in young people and expressed her admiration for what Locke has already accomplished as a high school senior.

“How many of you can say you did that in your senior year?” Hood asked.

Cedaredge Rotary Scholarship Program Supports Local Students
The Cedaredge Rotary Club Foundation Scholarship Program raises money to provide financial assistance to local high school seniors as well as students pursuing college degrees or technical career pathways.

Locke’s $500 scholarship contribution is part of that broader commitment to supporting local students and their educational goals.

With a 4.0 GPA, extensive AP coursework, athletic accomplishments, student leadership, community service, and plans to study chemistry, Locke represents the type of student recognized through the Cedaredge Rotary Club’s Student of the Month program.

Joy for the whole family.
